I’m a Cancer. I’m an Enneagram 9. I love… comfort. I love it! I love blankets, pillows, cuddles, being sentimental, candles, chill music, holiday traditions, childhood favourites because they all provide me with a sense of comfort.
Know what else I love? Comfort food.
Comfort food gets a bad rep in diet culture, doesn’t it? It all seems to get labelled as “junk” or you know, the food you aren’t supposed to eat too much of or too often *insert eye roll*.
I happen to think that comfort food is awesome. If certain foods make you feel comforted, power to them! Eat ‘em up! Keep in mind that sometimes we use food to comfort ourselves in the moment but that long term we might require other tools. But if I want ice cream when I’m sad or brownies when I feel homesick, that’s okay! It’s okay to let food be one of your comfort tools, if that feels good to you.
Something I love about cooking during the Winter months is how comforting the food can be. It’s hard to beat a warm, home cooked meal on a chilly evening, y’know? We all love coming in from the snow to a cup of hot cocoa, right?? Those are the vibes I want; warm foods for colder months. Warm belly, warm heart…. is that a saying? It should be.
Let food comfort you. Really, it’s okay. Let that guilt go. Let the food police voices fade away. What foods tend to comfort you? Maybe foods from childhood or your culture? Specific ingredients or flavours?
